Joan Greene

()

She was a little on the strict side, but her kids knew that Joan was always their number one advocate. If they had an issue, there wasn’t anyone else they’d want in their corner. She liked wine but wasn’t a snob about it: merlot in a box was just fine. You could eat a meal off her floors and her shoe collection rivaled Imelda Marcos. Though somewhat technologically challenged, she was eventually able to find her way through her iPad crises. You could either drink her coffee or use it for jet fuel. Joan was never really an animal lover and fearful of birds, mice and cats. She attempted gardening without much success, but was able to cook everything from cream puffs to Spam. Later years found her hanging out with her grandkids who were shocked to learn she was ever strict.

A young Joan and one of her close friends hatched a plan to switch boyfriends. Their caper lead to a 38-year marriage to the late Robert Greene that was blessed by four children (it’s in dispute who her favorite was): Robert (Kim) of North Wales, Pa., Cathy Kintzing (David) of Mount Holly, Terri Kolodka (George) of Verona, N.J., and Jennifer Evans (Brett) of Edgewater Park; 12 grandchildren: Rachel, Joshua, Gabrielle, Ross, Ryan (Geoffrey), Chelsea, Parker, Olivia, Emily, Brendan, Casey and Owen. She is also survived by her siblings, Buddy Clifford, Michael Clifford, Patty Colucci, and Sharon Gilbert, and many nieces and nephews.

Come celebrate 77 great years (Jan. 3, 1937 to March 25, 2014) from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, and 9 to 10 a.m., Monday, at Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside . Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, at St. Joseph ‘s Church, Beverly.
